Awake from its three-year hibernation!
On the road which leads to the Temple, taking refuge among the many stone sculptures, the beast once again finds its slumber disturbed.
"How long has this been here?"
An inquisitive tone accompanied a prod to the beast's side.
Apart from irritation, the beast felt that this scenario was somehow familiar.

Hello, hello. Author here.
This is a sequel to a small story I wrote about three years ago on this website. It's been a very long time since then, of course, so I haven't done anything like this for a good while.
I've been deciding on returning to write here ever since I got this nice laptop to write on. I've decided to give it a try again, although this time I think I won't be as active as I used to.
I'm going to keep this all casual and do it for fun. I hope whoever reads these has some fun too.

A reptilian eye opened to drink in its surroundings. Light from the mid-day sun. A path, winding far, far down like a river. An audience of small, stone figures to keep watch while the beast was vulnerable. And, curious over the creature that had blocked her path, a girl dressed in a tacky black and white.
The beast hissed as the invader poked at its nose with her broom's tail-end.
"When did those Buddhists get another watchdog?"
The "watchdog" lifted its fanged head to better observe the rude invader. It blinked slow, nostrils sniffed, then huffed. Very unimpressive. No sense of style at all. Supposedly, the black and white could be a striking combination. However, the beast was used to far more colorful ensembles. That big eyesore of a hat wasn't helping anything. Not to mention how dirty the whole thing was. This upstart intruder wasn't worth the beast's time. Too ordinary. It shuffled slightly and got back to work (sleep).
The girl, witch, adjusted the brim of her hat as she marveled, "Or, where for that matter?"
To a magician's eye, the beast could have been a sort of chimera, or similar creature that was perhaps created by use of magic. A familiar to lie on the stairs leading to the temple and discourage visitors from approaching. Were the temple folks up to something dangerous they didn't want other people to be caught up in? Their leader may be a magician, sure, but she didn't strike the witch as the sort of magician who would be interested in that kind of magic. Maybe this thing didn't even belong to the temple at all.
The witch looked up past the beast towards the stairs leading further up the path. A mischievous grin spread across her face.
A familiar and captivating scent once again drew the beast out of its sleep. This time, its reptilian gaze fixed on something wrapped in cloth. The intruder held out her hand and . . . offered something.
