"...I'm gonna go talk to the Komeijis, and see if they can help us in any way," I finally speak up. "If that fails, well... might as well go ahead with the wedding."

"The marriage of Reimu Hakurei and Remilia Scarlet," Sakuya muses, "Forming the Hakurei-Scarlet bloodline... that's something that Aya can't miss, no matter what!"

"I'm glad you approve," Patchouli says with a faint smile. "All right Meiling, while you go talk to the sisters, we'll make plans to move the ceremony up a little bit. Are you fine with that, Remi?" Patchouli turns to Remilia... who is staring off into the distance, with a dreamy look on her face.

"The Hakurei-Scarlet bloodline..." she murmurs, "Such a nice ring to it."

"Remi," Patchouli says seriously.

"Hmm? Oh!" Remilia jumps and comes back to herself. "Err, yes. Yes, that's fine. Make sure that Reimu knows, and we'll lure this tengu out once and for all!" We all nod, and set about our tasks.

As a light drizzle starts to fall from the cloudy heavens, I sigh deeply, running a hand down my face. Part of me just wants to go back to bed and sleep through this. The tengu are pretty isolationist to start with, so why not let them handle their own problems?

On the other hand, Aya is loose. Which means that she may be stalking innocent, heroic little Cirno even as I think things over. Or, she might be vengeful, which means everything from blackmail to a direct attack are a possibility. Given the mansion's role in bringing her down previously, this was a threat that we could not ignore.

Part of me wants to snap at Momiji for letting Aya slip away, but that would just be totally unfair to her. Another part wants to panic, but I force it down. This is a potentially serious situation, and as guardian of the mansion, I have a duty to see it dealt with.

"Let's go inside before the rain gets bad," I tell my two visitors, "We have a lot to discuss."

*****************************

A few minutes later, we're in a little-used break-room just down the hall from my bedroom. Sakuya isn't up yet, but I provided some coffee and sandwiches to Momiji and Hatate. Seemed the civil thing to do.

"So, why come to me?" I ask. "I thought that the tengu preferred to deal with their own problems."

Momiji swallows a bite of her sandwich and nods. "We do, normally. But this is an exceptional circumstance. Aya is a very old, very skil

Hmmm. Kind of a spread of votes this time around. Gonna call it for luring Aya to the ceremony, with a side of consulting the Komeijis.

So, funny story. The whole 'catch Aya' thing was originally going to be 3-4 posts. Then someone proposed a staged marriage, and this happened (not that I'm complaining). Funny how things happen, yeah?

Anyway, update will be in a new thread sometime today.

SympathyForTheDevil
Flipping through the list, your eyes catch a favorite of yours. Remilia might like this one.

“Alright, I’ve found one. ‘Sympathy for the Devil’”

The music begins. You listen to it for a moment, and then begin to sing when your cue arrives.

“Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste,”

“I’ve been around for a long, long year, stole many a man’s soul and faith.”

As you sing, a small part of your mind begins to wander.

“And I was round when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain…”

“Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands, and sealed his fate.”

You’ve never been much of a social person. You’ve dealt with people when you needed to, but you’ve never really sought them out.

“Pleased to meet you… hope you guess my name…”

“But what’s troubling you is the nature of my game.”

But tonight was fun. Really fun. You spent today in a huge crowd, and it wasn’t irritating. Though to be honest, it’s not like you’ve ever tried to be around large amounts of people.

“I stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change…”

“Killed the Czar and his ministers… Anastasia screamed in vain…”

Sure, there were down moments. Shikieiki’s disregard for privacy, or anything involving Yuuka.

“I rode a tank, held a generals rank,”

“While the blitzkrieg raged, and the fighters stank…”

But there was more good than bad. You met interesting people, learned interesting things.

“Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name, oh yeah.”

“Ah, what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah.”

Shikieiki, for all her lack of tact, seems like a good person.

“I watched with glee while your kings and queens,”

“Fought for ten decades, for the gods they made.”

Suwako is the first divine entity you’ve ever met, and you’ve learned that they’re… rather human.

“I shouted out, ‘Who killed the Kennedy’s,’”

“When after all, it was you and me.”

You don’t

With a nervous gulp I decide to call out to her. It's not that I'm actually frightened or anything by this surreal atmosphere. No sir. Not at all. I just don't want to disturb the poor girl. That's all. Really.

Right.

"Hey there!" I call out, forcing myself not to hide behind a tree. For a moment there is no response. Then the fairy slowly, methodically, sets her spoon down and turns towards me like she's rotating on an axis. Smooth, mechanical, precise... like she's keeping a careful grip on herself and won't let anything inside burst out.

Empty, dead eyes lock onto my own and a wide, cheery smile covers her face like a rictus grin on a skull. "Hi Meiling," the fairy says in a bright voice that's just a little bit too high-pitched. "Welcome to my camp. Would you like some soup?"

I carefully walk forward, all the while struck by the surreality of it all. "Um... no thanks. So, how are you holding up here, anyway?"

The little fairy doesn't move from her chair, instead choosing to follow me with her eyes. "Well, there are no marshmallows here. And that sucks. But it's okay, right? I mean, I did something bad, and have to pay for it. So it's my punishment, right? Not having any marshmallows. Instead, I plant down trees to replace the ones I burnt down while trying to roast marshmallows. That's my punishment, that's what Miss Yuuka told me."

I look down at the fairy's dinner table, where everything is just so precisely laid out. It's as unnatural

Pain. Agony. Suffering. These were the songs that my body was singing to me, a harmony of protest over how poorly it had been treated lately. The bruising from the fight with Yuugi was basically nothing. The sheer amount of alcohol I had imbibed, however? That was the real problem. To say I feel like hell is an understatement. My mouth feels like it's full of fur. My head is pounding relentlessly. And that weird, rusty squeaking coming from somewhere nearby is NOT helping.

I open my eyes a crack and then slam them shut quickly. Light! Horrible, horrible light! And what the hell is that squeaking?!

In the distance comes the sound of someone puking. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a hangover. Good thing I know a cure.

I focus deep within my self and send a surge of chi through my body, restoring bruised flesh and purging toxins from my system. As I do so, that squeaking noise fades... then returns... then fades again. Well, I'll see what it is in a bit. For now, I've managed to get over the hangover. Some water would patch me up even better, but for now I can get up without wishing I was dead.

I open my eyes. Yep, that's a ceiling. Must be somewhere in the underground. God, what happened last night? I was fighting with Yuugi, alcohol got involved... then blackout. Shaking my head, I sit up...

Wait.

These are not my clothes.

This is Yuugi's blue Kimono.

Why am I wearing Yuugi's blue kimono?

I look around the room I'm in and see... signs. Many, many signs. Road signs. Shop signs. What appears to be a billboard (how did that get in here?). Just... signs, everywhere. I carefully get to my feet. Okay, this is definitely some sort

I squirm a bit in my seat. "...All right." She practically chirps as she produces a small notebook with a flourish.

"Just relax," she hums. "Never been interviewed before?"

"Never even seen a tengu before, but I'll wing it." Oof. Pun not intended. This isn't off to a good start. Still, she smiles and lifts the pen as she starts.

"Can you tell me your name, please?"

"My name's Kazuki. Kazuki the Applepicker." Scribble, scribble scribble.

"There's probably a story to that," she notes as she pens.

"A long one." Fortunately, she moves on.

"And how old are you?"

"Hm. Most fairies don't really keep track...I'd say about ffffour..."

"Fourteen?"

"Little higher."

"Forty?"

"No, no. Four hundred and a bit. Give or take."

There's a moment of silence. Aya stares blanky for a good five seconds before finally speaking up. "...Can I hear that again, please?"

"He's not lying," Meiling interjects. "That's about when I first met him. He's probably even older, from before he was old enough to remember."

Aya blinks, and scratches out a line before quickly replacing it. "I, uh. I see." Is it wrong that I feel a smirk creeping up on me? "So tell me a little about yourself."

Put me on the spot, why don't you. "Uh, let me think. I'm three feet, six inches tall--about bog-standard for a fairy. I live by the lake. I like to fly and read--"

"Ooh!" She interjects. "You're literate?"

"...Yeah. I can read."

"Sorry, sorry, it's just pretty uncommon." Outside humans and tengu, you mean? Before I can work up a good indignation, she's moved on. "You said you live on the lake? Where were you born?"

"Right here. Well, somewhere near the lake. I don't really remember much.&q

I take a deep breath to clear my mind. So, I'm going to be very honest with myself here. This is stupid. Really, really stupid. I have a little pervert, who claims to be able to see into my subconscious, offering to play therapist for me. Her fee? She wants to fondle me. This has got to be the dumbest thing-

"Your face says no," Koishi notes.

I glare down at her. "I won't lie, a little advice could go a long way, and I'd really like to unravel whatever's happening in my mind. But I really don't like the thought of someone coming up and handling me like a piece of meat. Isn't there someone else you can do that to?"

"Everyone else has learned to dodge me," Koishi pouts, "Sorta like you. So I don't get too many goodies down below. Besides, you've got one helluva body!" Koishi peeks up at me as she says this, but I just stare back blandly. "...Not big on flattery, huh. Fair enough." Koishi shrugs innocently. "So, lemme lay it out for you. I wanna be friends, 'cuz I don't have too many friends. That's why I wanna help you. On the other hand, I'm a creature of impulse. It comes with my nature, and all my impulses are screaming BOOBIES right about now. Help me get that out of my system, and I can be serious with you."

I'm a little confused now. "I don't follow. And why are you acting so serious all of a sudden?"

"I just told you: impulses." Koishi's look has lost its earlier vapidness. She actually does look very serious. I'm vaguely reminded of Flandre's mood-shifts. "When I have an impulse, I gotta fulfill it. Right now I have two: touch sexy body, and help confused lady and make frie

Hi, I'm new here to Touhou-Project. I've mostly been lurking reading some of the stuff here and now I feel inspired to try my hand at writing a CYOA. I'm a massive fan of U.N. Owen/Princess Tepes' 'A Fairy's Tale'. In fact it's where I drew the inspiration to write this. I was also inspired by a few other stories such as 'Fae Adventure in Resonant Youthfulness' and 'Fairy Maid in Gensokyo' to name a few. Considering I drew inspiration from these there will be some similarities, especially in the premise itself - the story of a nameless fairy. (So, being new and unaware of the customs here, if anyone, especially the authors of the stories mentioned above, asks me to cease on grounds of plagiarism, I will do so.)

So, without further ado...

-----------------------------------------------

Ah, I beg your pardon, honoured guests, you took me completely by surprise. Yes, I was already expecting you. I just didn't expect to run into you so. Yes, the mistress has already notified me of your coming. Please, take a seat and make yourselves comfortable. I shall see to the tea and biscuits.

Here, please, help yourselves, enjoy. Now, I understand you wished to speak to me specifically? It is not very often our honoured guests seek out a fairy so specifically, let alone me. I feel humbled, and somewhat curious too. Whatever could the occasion be?

Ah, I see. You'd like to hear about that. And the mistress directed you to me, did she? That does make sense, though I feel I'm hardly the fairy, let alone person, most qualified to tell this story. Hmmm? The whole story, you say? Well, that might take a while, I'm afraid. I'm not as quick or smart as some of my cousins, you see. You don't mind? And you'd like me to start at the very beginning? Well then, what luck that we're so comfortably set up with tea and snacks. Very well then, dear guests, I will have to ask you to forgive my poor rambling excuse for storytelling. My memories of the beginning are only fuzzy at best. This will be my first time relating this tale to anyone too. But I will do my very best. If nothing else, trying

You are Remilia Scarlet.

And today you are going to murder someone.

So naturally you have to look your best. Which is why you are taking great care with selecting your outfit.

"Which do you think, Sakuya?" You ask, holding first one, then another, in front of your otherwise unclad form.

"They are identical cuts, Mistress." Sakuya replies, and you ignore the very subtle hint of weariness in her tone.

"No, no, not at all. You see. This one has gold buttons, but a rather plain mourning veil. This other, by contrast, has only brass buttons, but the veil is rather intricately done to resemble spiderwebs."

"Of course, Mistress. It is as you say." Sakuya replies, pleasant smile not shifting so much as an iota.

It would be foolish to simply leave the golems inert and useless. At the same time, you don't see much point in simply destroying things so soon after you create them, when you might be forced to create something anew rather than have it waiting in the wings.

You alter their status, so that they will defend Alistair, if truly needed, and follow his commands.

..... No, you don't think you need to bother telling him about that. He'll find out on his own. Or not.

In the meantime, you have most of the shopping done. You still should pick up chocolate, maybe a plant, and some other nebulous things, but it isn't an immediate concern. For now, you should simply transport them home.

... It does not strike you until after you have done this, that you do not recall the Rumia youkai following you out of Alistairs, or entering your shadow.

This observation, however, is rendered of secondary concern at most when you return to your library to find Marisa, your assitant, and the spider working in concert to finish of a purple and sludgy roaring mass.

It grows still and bubbles a bit. And Marisa whirls on Koakuma.

"And that is why I said I needed seeds from the blue ones." She snaps.

"What difference does it make?" Koakuma snaps back, riled. "You needed flower seeds. The seeds are identical! The flowers are of the same species, the only difference is pigments in the petals. They still sprout red flowers almost every time, and finding blue ones is hard!"

"It's not the same! Even if they're the same in every other way, seeds from a red flower aren't the same as seeds from a blue flower!"

"That's ridiculous-"

"That's Magic."

Deep breaths are taken on both sides, and your shoulders tense as, clearly, both are a hairs breadth away from coming to blows.

Marisa is the first to turn away, barking orders to get windows open,
